A day in the life of a well known local landscaper - Meet Sonia Swierczynski
She has been providing landscape services for many years.
Good morning Norwich and Upper Valley residents,
This is a story about ‘A day in the life of Sonia Swierczynski’, a landscape contractor and artist if you will. Sonia has been providing landscape services for many years and I thought it would be a nice idea to share a day in her busy life with the community. This year landscaping has been much more difficult to do with all the rain and unsettled weather we have been getting for most of the spring and summer.
I asked Sonia to tell us about her typical day in the fields and backyards of Norwich and beyond and here is what she has to say:
Dear Demos,
The name of my business is:
Monte Verde Gardening
Every day, from the end of March well into November, I get up about 4:30 am. My mind is already going. Around 6:00 a.m., I start doing office work, looking at the schedule, emailing clients, sourcing plant material, and billing.
By 7:00 a.m., my crew often starts texting to double check where we are starting that day or tell me when they might be expected to show up. Many factors beyond our control can influence last minute changes. Arborists show up and need free range of the client’s property, fields get mowed (too noisy!), bad weather comes in, or several crew members can’t come in for some reason and we need to shift gears. Flexibility is key.
We start around 8:00 a.m. and may work at as many as four properties in a day. Most of our work is in Hanover or Norwich with a lot of accounts in Windsor and one each in Bennington and Barnet.
Every year has its challenges and this summer the weeds are having a great time. I’m lucky to have such a great crew, all of whom have been with me for years, to share the ups and downs.
Our work ranges from weeding, edging, and mulching to restoration, design, hedge maintenance, and shrubs. It’s different every day and I love the variety.
Demo,
I guess brevity is not my strong suit. I hope there’s enough material to edit out what you need.
Sonia
And here is Sonia doing what she does to improve and keep the gardens of Norwich and beyond looking beautiful always.
Not quite done yet she says
Yes there is a lot of work in this and a good crew is key (crew members are in the back as well as the sides in this photo).
Weeds in the bucket and more on the tarps prove that this flower garden is really taking shape
Oh! Oh ! did I miss a few, well I will make sure I get those too!
Thank you Sonia for sharing your typical day with us.
And thank you to my readers for your continued support in keeping My newsletter about Norwich keeping on. I am always looking for more free and paid subscribers.
