Wrapping Up a Remarkable Year
As we close out the 2024–2025 school year, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each member of our Marion Cross School community. This has been a truly remarkable year—filled with curiosity, creativity, resilience, and joy. From classroom projects and field trips to school-wide celebrations and everyday moments of learning, our students have grown in so many ways. It has been a privilege to watch them explore new ideas, take on challenges, and support one another.
None of this would be possible without the dedication and heart of our outstanding staff. Every day, our teachers and support team show up with enthusiasm, care, and a deep commitment to nurturing children’s academic and social development. I also want to thank our families for being such engaged and supportive partners throughout the year. Your trust and collaboration are essential to everything we do.
This year, we will be mailing home report cards to ensure that each family receives a printed copy. Included in the envelope will be your child’s classroom placement for the 2025–2026 school year. We hope this approach helps keep important information in your hands and allows for a moment of shared reflection and celebration as you look back on the year together.
Creating class lists is one of the most thoughtful and collaborative processes we take on each spring. Teachers, case managers, and interventionists have spent many hours considering the unique needs, personalities, and strengths of every student. While not every request could be fulfilled, please know that each placement was made with intention, care, and a focus on what is best for children both individually and collectively. We are confident that each student will be well supported and set up for a successful start in the fall.
As we head into summer, I hope you find time to rest, recharge, and enjoy all the simple pleasures the season offers. I’ll be spending some time gardening, caring for the many animals on my farm, and—of course—doing a bit of planning for the exciting year ahead.
Thank you for a fantastic school year. We wish you a summer filled with sunshine, laughter, and family time—and we can’t wait to welcome you back in August!
Shawn
Have a fantastic summer,
Shawn

Happy Summer!
As we reach the end of another school year, it’s hard to believe just how much has happened in these last few weeks alone! From joyful celebrations to memorable learning experiences, our days have been full and meaningful.
Looking back, it’s clear that it was a truly great year at our school. Our goal is always to create a place where every student and staff member feels they belong and are valued—and we’ve seen this come to life in so many ways. Our students have shown kindness and care for one another, building strong friendships and helping each other every day. The relationships between students and staff are at the heart of our community, and I am deeply grateful for the connections we share. The quote (that is hanging outside Mr. Janerico’s room) speaks to me. Although we all can’t be “the best”, we can find out what our “thing” is and we can do our best to be our best.
Thank you for being a part of our school family. Wishing everyone a restful, happy summer!
Greg
Counselor's Corner
Hello wonderful families! As we wrap up another fantastic school year, I’m so proud of all the growth and learning our students have shown. Whether your child is just starting their journey or preparing to take the next big step, we’ve had a blast exploring important topics together. Let’s take a look back at what we’ve accomplished and get ready for some well-deserved summer fun.
Over the past two weeks, our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as we wrapped up our units and reviewed everything we’ve learned. Our Kindergarten and First Graders finished their heartwarming units on Kindness and Feelings, learning how to express themselves and care for others. Meanwhile, our Second through Fifth Graders put their amazing brains to work playing Jeopardy-style games, reviewing all the important lessons from this year in a fun and interactive way. And for our Sixth Graders, we focused on preparing for the big leap to middle school, getting ready for new adventures ahead.
Summer vacation is here! Time to relax, explore, and enjoy the sunshine. I hope everyone has a safe and joyful break filled with laughter and new experiences. Don’t forget to keep those curious minds active with some fun reading or creative projects.
Just a quick reminder: I don’t regularly check my email over the summer, so if you need to get in touch, please reach out to Mr. Gonyaw. He’ll make sure your message gets to me.
Warm regards,
Ms. Keel
School News and Information
News from the Health Office
Heavy rainfalls can create potentially dangerous conditions that linger for several days in swim holes, streams, rivers, and waterfalls. Generally, you should stay out of any body of water for at least 48 hours following a significant rain event. If there is major flooding, it will take extra time for water bodies to recover. This is because flooding can cause combined sewer overflows (raw sewage dumped into bodies of water) as well as extra debris and fuel and other chemicals to flow into bodies of water. Stay out of the water if it looks cloudier than usual, is discolored, or smells bad. Cloudy water can be a warning that there are more germs in it. Swimming in these waters may result in health effects such as minor skin rashes, sore throats, diarrhea or more serious problems.
Middle School Football Registration & Summer Mini-Camps
Middle School Football registration is open for rising 6th - 8th graders! Join an upcoming football mini-camp this summer to learn more--get to know the players, learn some basics of playing the game of football, meet the coaches, and ask any questions you may have! These are free and open to all interested players, plus parents are welcome to join at the end to ask questions too. Players should wear cleats and bring a water bottle (no other equipment needed). Hope to see you there (no registration required)!
