I received this message today and thought I would share it with Norwich families who have children at the MCS school.
Dear MCS Families,
We are experiencing a high number of absences lately, which is to be expected in our current COVID situation. As a school, we fully support families being cautious and absolutely support students staying home when they are ill or symptomatic.
It is important to us that all kids are accounted for and safe. So that we can call families of unaccounted for children in a timely manner, we ask that you do the following when your child will be out of school.
1. Please call the school (802-649-1703) and press 1 to report your student absence. You will be directed to a mailbox where we would like you to clearly leave the name of your child, the reason for the absence, and then your name.
2. Please call the office by 8:05 to report your child as absent.
Please know that if we do not hear from you, the school will call to inquire about student absences. Nurse Jane may also call to inquire further about children who are out for illness.
Also, a friendly reminder that school officially starts at 8:05 each day. Recently, a lot of kids have been tardy. Even though we are always delighted to have your child attend, when they enter the classroom late it causes a distraction for others. When there are multiple students in a classroom arriving late, that is a lot of disruption! It also complicates our attendance process. When possible, please be timely with arrival at school.
Thank you for working with us to allow for efficient attendance to happen at our school. This will better allow monitoring of students who are out.
Take care,
Shawn
