A photo essay of Halloween Night in Norwich at NFD, Norwich Inn and downtown trick or treat.
Photos and a time line video even!
Good morning Norwich and the Upper Valley
As many of you know, Halloween night is a big deal in Norwich and as a rule I try to hit the streets taking photos of the event and stopping in at at the NFD for a few more photos as the crowds gather for a hot dog and refreshments and then I make my way back to the Inn where it all ends. I was not able to do that this year as the crossing guards assisted with traffic control to ensure safety for all.
This photo essay will highlight photos that were taken by the Norwich Fire Department, Kata Sarsvari who has provided a link to her photos here:

and a few from Herb Swanson. ( He was taking photos for the Inn and shared a few for this story.) Their efforts are the reason we have this photo essay. Thanks also to all the families and businesses who help make this a fun and safe night in Norwich.
So take a few minutes to check out and enjoy the photos:
If you like time line videos there is one included from the NFD that is cool.
This message appeared in todays List Serv and covers all the pertinent info for the fire station event.

Dear Norwich Neighbors,
The Norwich Fire Department had a wonderful time hosting our annual Halloween
open house. Our members loved seeing all the amazing costumes, giving tours of
our trucks, and connecting with the kids and adults in our community. Our crew
also broke all of our previous records for food served! It was the first time
we ran out of hotdogs before the end - we missed about 10 people.
In only two hours we served:
714 Hotdogs,
600 Bags of chips,
25 Gallons of lemonade,
12 Gallons of water and,
Over 1,500 pieces of candy!
It was epic. Pure fun! We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
Here is a link to our time-lapse video of the event (Halloween compressed into
50 seconds):
While you may associate our Volunteer Fire Department with responses to fire,
medical and emergency management events, I think it’s worth noting that we
also play a part in creating and supporting the unique community character of
our small town. If you are interested in joining our department, please don’t
hesitate to contact us. New members are essential to maintaining our vitality
- no prior experience necessary, all training is provided.
Take care,
Matt Swett

A group pose from the Fire crew and a get well wish for Captain Peter Griggs
and plea for Captain Griggs speedy return to the NFD (Even the ghost is in on it)
Show and tell of the equipment is a good thing for the community to see
And the refreshments are great or should I say not too shabby
A tour of the fire truck is a must
Lot’s of help from the crew and volunteers make it an easy job
And some team work at the grilling station
And the chief is smiling
Not sure about the other one though
Special orders make the hot dogs the way you like them
And now it is tour time again
A chance to chill by the grill and chew the fat
With more participants enjoying the nice weather
And a special hello from these three amigos
And still more coming in for a treat with no tricks here
And here are more photos for you to enjoy… These were taken by Herb Swanson
Thanks to all for making this another night to remember in Norwich and speaking of remembering…Don’t forget to change the clocks back an hour.
