Hello Norwich and beyond,

Several items of American Legion Post # 8 news to share with you

50 yearMembership Certificate award

George Fraser received his 50 year membership certificate at a recent legion meeting from the acting Commander PJ Stanwood.

Veterans Day event announcement:

As we are getting closer to Veterans Day, I would like to remind you of our ceremony that we will be having at the town monuments site at Tracy Hall.

Here are the program highlights for you to review:

You are invited to attend the American Legion Post #8 dedication of new honorees to the monuments. This dedication will be held on Veterans Day, November 11, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Norwich Town Hall monument site.

Program highlights include:

  • Opening prayer by The Rev. Jennie Anderson and Rabbi Mark Melamut

  • Pledge of Allegiance by several MCS students and Boy Scout Troop 253

  • Commander/ First Sergeant Jim Harlow will introduce guests and speakers

  • A presentation by Command Sergeant Major Jeff Goodrich.

  • Unveiling of names of the honorees by Commander/ First Sergeant Jim Harlow and Captain George Fraser

  • Additional remarks from invited guests

  • Closing prayer by The Rev. Jonathan Hauze

And now for the rest of the story and a fitting story it is:

The American legion Post # 8 recently presented some quilts to veterans and also awarded a veteran a 50 year membership certificate

In the military way of life, there is always another mission that needs to be done in order to meet the unit’s goals. Everyone knows what is expected and works together as a team and the job gets done.

Dot Plume and Donna Stearns secret mission of late has been to make Quilts for Combat veterans. They too work well as a team and as you can see from these photos their mission is complete at least for now.

Commader Jim Harlow displays the next quilt to be presented

Sgt Richard W. Murry Jr. receives his quilt

A quilt is being presented to SP4 William J. McCormick by Dot Plume

George being called up to receive his quilt

And a quilt is presented to Cpt. George D. Fraser

Proudly displaying the quilt

Commander Jim Harlow presents Dot Plume with a thank you and some flowers

And a few words of wisdom from Dot that apparently got the members attention.
