Good Morning Norwich,
I just received the video and a short write-up of the Norwich Lions Club Meadow Muffin event that was held this past Sunday on the Norwich green. Read all about it and check out the video below.
On Sunday, 6 October at 3 pm, after a ceremony in which three young Norwich residents were sworn in as judges, Farmer Chet Miller introduced three yearling cows to the Norwich Lions Club Meadow Muffin field of play on the town green with one purpose in mind: to choose a winner and a runner up for the contest. The field of play was an enclosure with 4 x 4-foot squares, each assigned a random number that corresponded to a plot purchased by those participating in the contest.
In about 10 minutes, one of the better-informed bovines (Scarlett, a Hereford) let loose on square M9, which was “owned” by the holder of Plot #207. For the next 20 minutes, two Guernseys, Mel and Oona, were too modest to follow suit, despite offerings of carrot tops and cow talk from the bystanders. So, it became necessary to draw a letter out of one hat (the letter “O”), and a number out of another (the number “9”) to determine a second-prize winner—the holder of Plot #162.
Thanks to generous participation from the community, we sold 235 plots at $20 with gross contributions of $4,700. The First Prize winner will receive 10% ($470) and the Second Prize winner will receive 5% ($235). The 233 runners-up receive the satisfaction that they have contributed to a good cause—the Norwich Lions Club Community Grants Program, which solicits proposals annually from local non-profits for projects that help them perform their missions in support of our community.
Thank you, to all who participated and we hope that you’ll come back next year.
