Beaver Meadow Rd walking path... a photo essay
Next steps will include crosswalks and some additional signage
Good afternoon Norwich and the Upper Valley,
I hope you are all coping with the heat and doing OK otherwise.
This story is a step by step photo essay showing the Beaver Meadow Rd walking path project. The walkway is completed and the next phase will include some signage to properly identify the path and to direct walkers and repainting of the crosswalks. I stopped in to see the Town manager for a quick visit and we had a nice chat. He stated that the repainting is typically done annually in the July /August time frame. The goal is always to get things completed before school starts in September.
I hope you all enjoy the story and have a nice safe summer as you are out and about and beyond the Upper Valley.
In the photo essay, you will see that safety is key and steps were taken to make it a nice project all the way around. Kudos to all involved both Norwich residents and Town of Norwich department personnel who helped get this project to this step.
I am starting with the completed walkway to explain where it is and then you will see the step to step project from start to finish.
Heading into town it starts at the corner of Bragg Hill Rd and Beaver Meadow Rd.
Crushed stone surface for walkability
And it stops at Heritage Lane
On the other side of the street it starts at Beaver Meadow and Huntley Rd and you can walk the Huntley loop to get back on Beaver Meadow and connect with the sidewalks to Main street.
And it also continues towards Moore Lane and as a bonus feature at the American Legion you can take the new Kids bridge over to the Huntley playground.
New culverts placed just after the Legion property
Another view
And a smooth surface after completion
You are almost there and will need to make a turn soon
To connect with the sidewalk at the Moore Lane bridge
Now that you have an idea of the location of the walking path take a few moments to see a step by step photo essay of the work that was done.
Signage to prepare the driver for what’s up ahead
Road work is happening down the street and around the corner
Looks like Beaver Meadow Road heading into town
Stopping the traffic to make it a safe project and allowing the contractors to do their job safely and without interruption.
Continuing down the road to dig the surface
Laying down the landscape fabric to protect against weeds and prep the surface
Looking good and made to fit like a glove
Laying down the base (This is not the finished product for sure)
This is the final layer of crushed stone which makes it walkable
Placing safety cones in preparation for the next phase…
Which is moving over to the other side (the Legion building is on your right)
All the right equipment for this job
Waters Construction was the contractor on this job
This big Cat is doing it’s thing
Heading back towards the American Legion from Beaver Meadow Road
Busy work here as the culvert is being replaced
Just after the American Legion property at the brook
Power company sub contractors trimming trees near the wires after culvert was finished.
