Everyone loves a send off parade
Come say good bye to the kids for the summer send off on June 5, 2020.
Hello all, I am posting this announcement in hopes of getting the word out about a nice send off parade that is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 5, 2020. It is an informal parade if you will that will involve the students, their parents and the teachers and staff in a way that is safe and a parade that follows the CDC guidelines if there are guidelines for a parade of a different kind. Check out the story and the map of the route.
Molly Turco is the artist and creator of the map for the MCS summer send off. She graduated MCS in 1994.
I would like to thank all of the local residents for their support and understanding that there may be a bit of an increase in traffic on Friday.
Here are the details:
Hi Everyone,
A few notes about this Friday's "Summer Send Off". As I mentioned, you are not required to attend, but it should be a fun way to say goodbye to kids. If you do come, wearing a mask and keeping six feet apart are important things to remember as we are trying to model the CDC recommendations for kids. (We may have clear face shields available so kids can see our faces, but not sure quite yet.) Also, as noted below, we aren't allowed to take anything handed to us by a student or parent, you can encourage them to leave it in the school's vestibule, or drop if off in the bed of Greg's truck parked in front of 63 Carpenter St. (Matt's House...thanks Matt).
There will be two maps: one going out to families, and one for MCS staff and Norwich community members to have as it lists your locations. Educational Assistants, please stand with the grade you typically work with. (Zoom in on the map to see your spots.) Dressing up or wearing fun accessories is encouraged...I know students like to see teachers being silly.
Beth Reynolds from NPL, the Fire Department, the Police Department and D&W will be out to cheer on our students too! Demo will be around to take some pictures as well. (Thank you!)
Summer Send Off!
Here are the details for next week's socially distanced end of year send off . The map of the route is attached.
Timing: Friday, June 5th 12:30-1:30, it should only take about 10-15 minutes to drive through, so come anytime within that hour.
Start: You will notice our first teachers and staff members near the gazebo on Main St. to mark the start of the route and others will be lined up around the loop grouped by grade level and specialty.
Finish: The route ends on the west end of Hazen Street (the end closer to Turnpike Rd) at that point you can turn right and head home, or left back towards town if that's closer to your home.
Traffic: As I mentioned in CrossWords, there will still be normal traffic in Norwich during the 12:30-1:30 time slot, so please try to not line up in groups for driving through the route, or pass other cars to connect with friends. Chief Frank will be around to support traffic flow.
Per Governor Scott's orders, teachers and staff will not be able to take anything handed to them by a student. (This is hard for all of us!) If you do have something to give to a specific teacher, you can place it in the vestibule at the main entrance of the school at a time that works for you. We will also have a few pick-up trucks in front of 63 Carpenter Street for you to drop something off in one of the truck beds during the drive through event. If you would like to make a donation to the Haven in the name of one of your teachers, that would be a great way to show appreciation, and you can even do it online.
Teachers and staff will be wearing masks, so your kids may want a heads up on this, as it will be different.
As excited as your kids may be to see their teachers, please be sure they stay safe while driving through. Best practice would be to stay in your car through this whole event. It can be tempting for kids to lean out of windows, so we know this will be hard.
Can't wait to wave to you all on June 5th, feel free to decorate your car!
