Message From The Principal
Can you believe that we only have five and a half days remaining in this school year? They will prove to be a wonderful 5.5 days! This time of year teachers start wrapping up the school year, which comes with celebrations and the culmination of larger projects. This week, sixth graders finished construction of their solar powered sun catchers and tested the final product, with some being able to reach the boiling point of water. You may have driven past the school during the day and wondered what the large silver contraptions spread about were, now you know. Third graders proudly displayed their Native American dioramas in the atrium for their peers to admire. Each showed a different region of the US and what the traditional Native American dwellings would have looked like. Fourth grade finished their unit about Japanese culture with a day spent immersed in sharing what they have learned, as well as learning from special guests. All in all, it felt like a “normal” week of school!
Next week proves to be joyful, but hot. Our outstanding special area teachers (teachers of Art, Music, PE, French, Technology, Guidance, and Library) have planned a week of Covid-safe field day activities for students in all grade levels. We feel that since very few of our students are vaccinated, we still need to be cautious. Because of this, the special area teachers have planned field day activities that span the week and have only one grade level participating at a time. This is sure to be a welcome activity for the last week of school.
On Thursday of next week, we will be celebrating our 6th graders as we prepare to send them across the river to RMS. Thanks to the support of the PTO, 6th grade families, MCS staff, and the Covid Task Force, we have planned a celebration that will honor students in a safe way. Each student will be able to invite up to four family members for the celebration taking place on the Norwich Green. We ask that all family members plan to bring their own seating, remain 6 feet apart from other family groups, and stay masked for the duration of the event. I am so happy that we will be able to have an in person event.
Finally, please help us out by talking to your children who use electric scooters and bicycles on Girard Way. There have been many near misses with cars, buses, and small children in the last week. We are happy to have students bring their electric scooters and bicycles, but request that they do so safely. I do believe that some have exceeded the speed limit for that area!
Have a joyful weekend,
Shawn
Message From Student Services
Happy Number Day!
On June 14th we will have MCS Spirit Day...it is the last Special Dress Up Day of the year as it is the last Friday of the year!
Congratulations to all 3rd through 6th graders. All of the mandated testing is complete and our preliminary results look great.
Also thanks so much to John Pepper, who treated the entire MCS staff to lunch. I found out that the Diablo Sauce is Fire!
As we head to the last full week of school, we are feeling really grateful and appreciated. Thanks to the MCS Community for making this year possible.
Have a great weekend!

School News and Information
Attention 6th Grade Parents:
There is a newly formed RMS PTO and we held regular meetings, organized a parent-child book club, a welcome committee and several teacher appreciation events during the year. We are hoping to broaden our community next school year by offering more socials and increased communications starting with a back to school picnic, date to be determined. We also hope to provide a password protected online directory of the Richmond Middle School family contacts. The same format has been used by the Marion Cross School PTO.
All RMS staff and parents or legal guardians with current RMS students are automatically members of the PTO. Thus these efforts are funded solely by donations. Please consider sending a check to Richmond Middle School PTO, 63 Lyme Rd, Hanover NH 03755 or via @Tracey-Hayes-23 (PTO business Venmo in the works) with the memo "RMS PTO."
Additionally, please see this google doc to sign up for participation and planning PTO efforts, activities and meetings. 2021- 22 PTO information and participation questionnaire
It’s Time to Return All Library Books
It’s the end of another school year which means that all library books need to be returned to school. I’ve sent out a couple of reminders to those that have books checked out. If you feel there is an error, please let me know right away. Look in all the ‘impossible’ places - even in the car. I appreciate your efforts.
If you are unable to find the book, please pay the replacement fee, which is usually listed in the email notice you receive. Checks can be made out to Norwich School District. It would be wonderful if the new librarian could have a clean slate to start her new year next Autumn!

Dear MCS Families,
I hope you'll take a moment to check out the amazing songs our students in grades 2-6 wrote and performed this year. You will need to be logged into your child's Google account to view this page.
Mr. Ramsey
Do you live in Norwich and have at least one child not yet in kindergarten? The town's Childcare Committee wants to learn about your childcare arrangements and get your suggestions on how the town can help. Please complete this survey by June 11 to share your family's story and ideas.
The Childcare Committee was established earlier this year by the Norwich Selectboard at the recommendation of the new Town Plan. We are a group of industry experts, local leaders, and parents -- all working to identify meaningful, feasible ways the town could be more attractive and accessible for families with children.
Our recommendations to the Selectboard will be more persuasive if we hear from lots and lots of families. Please share the link to the survey with your Norwich friends and neighbors -- especially families who may not read the Listserv or be connected to town news. And please just have one individual per household complete the survey.
Lastly, our committee holds monthly meetings and would love more participation. See the town's website for details. Thank you for your help in gathering this important information.
Hello, This year Field Day as we know it has been canceled. The Specials teachers all got together with Mr. Bagnato and Mr. Gonyaw and came up with the next best thing. We all wanted to provide the students one last time to have a fun and exciting event with their Specials teachers. During the last full week of school the Specials Teachers have created a Fun Day for the students. We are super excited to laugh and play together with all of our students!

VT TRAVEL GUIDELINES
As part of Vermont's phased reopening plan, there is new travel guidance. Except for international travel, travel no longer requires testing or quarantine.
CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated, because travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19.
Travelers should follow the guidelines of the state or country they visit. These rules may be different state by state or country by country (latest update from the VT Dept. of Health).
If your child receives a COVID vaccine, please send a copy of the card to pamhausler@marioncross.org or fax a copy to 802-649-3640. We will update the immunization information in Powerschool.
If your child is in 5th or 6th grade and has had a Tdap vaccine, please send the updated immunization record. 6th graders should have the Tdap on file before the start of 7th grade.
BE TICK SMART
We have been finding a lot of ticks. I have included information from the healthvermont website. The information includes ways to remove the ticks and what to be aware of with a tick bite.
We need volunteers to help keep the MCS gardens watered and healthy this summer! Here is a link for families to sign up for any week they can help out:

PTO Bulletin Board
The PTO received two Spring Grant requests, and the PTO Finance Committee voted to fund both requests. The two grants are a Leveled Literacy System Teacher Trolley to enhance instruction by making the Leveled Literacy System materials easier to access and more organized, and the purchase of an MCS t-shirt for each student so that everyone will have one for future Spirit Day celebrations. Thank you to Patrick Gordon and Katie Cormier for submitting these grant requests.
Field Day is coming up on Monday, June 14th immediately following dismissal on the last day of school! Please join the Norwich Recreation Department and the MCS PTO for this fun-filled afternoon. Any student participating MUST be registered, and all registered participants will get a free burrito from Boloco! Field Day is a cooperative celebration that only happens if we have enough volunteers to run events. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to volunteer! We need five more volunteers from 11:30am-12:30pm, seven more from 12:30pm-1:30pm, nine more from 1:30pm-2:30pm, and three more from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Please help out if your schedule allows.

The MCS 6th Graders have a lot going on! Their graduation ceremony takes place on Thursday, June 10th. In addition to receiving their diplomas during the ceremony, they'll be performing two traditional dances and giving their 6th Grade Class Gift to the school. On the following evening, Friday, June 11th, they'll enjoy the 6th Grade Dance at the Pavilion at the Montshire Museum. If you have or know a 6th grader, be sure to give them your best wishes as they conclude this unique graduating year and get ready to head across the river in the fall!
Have a great weekend!
