Meet the Norwich Public Library's new Board of Trustees
Several new members have joined the board so now it's time to introduce them to the community.
Hello Norwich,
Did you know that the Norwich Public Library turned over a new leaf?
What are the metaphors in turned over a new leaf you might ask.
One such metaphor describes it this way:
Here a 'leaf' means a page in a book, so 'to turn over a new leaf' means to begin a new page of life. And the best way to do that is with new members and their creativity and new ideas.
Meet your Norwich Public Library Board of Trustees:
From Left to Right: Lucinda Walker, Todd Tompson, Marc Aquila, Tricia Spellman, Julia Lau, Jon Protas, Jennifer Ankner-Edelstein, Molly Gentine, Marisa Lorenzo (via Zoom), Richard Adams (via Zoom). Missing from Photo: Emily Myers, Megan Tompkins
Read information that was provided by Lucinda Walker, and Molly Gentine for this story:
Our newest board members are Jennifer Ankner- Edelstein, Julia Lau and Jon Protas. Board members can serve up to 2 three year terms (6 years total.) We've been very lucky in that most board members serve the full 6 years. This makes for a board that has both excellent institutional memory and energy!
NPL is in the second year of our current strategic plan (found at this link: https://www.norwichlibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Library2022StrategicPlan.pdf ) We are updating our technology plan, redesigning our website and increasing the number and kinds of programming we offer for all ages. Our winter monthly music program was very popular so we plan to bring it back this summer.
Lucinda Walker, Director NPL
Other fundraising goals are the ongoing Annual Appeal, Norwich Trivia Night coming up in May, and the Sign Fundraiser this Spring, which allows messages to be displayed on the library sign!

And you will find one of the Library’s more popular fundraiser events, the “Tables of Content” https://tablesofcontent.weebly.com/ which will be happening soon but there is still time to get your tickets which are now on sale.
Here is the pertinent info from the NPL Development Committee, followed by the Listserv posting.
Tables of Content is a literary-themed dinner party that raises funds for the Norwich Public Library. It was last held in 2019, so we're very happy to be able to continue the tradition. It's a delicious way to celebrate the end of winter and support the library at the same time. Hosts select a book that will serve as a theme for the evening, and plan a meal inspired by the book. They choose one of three weekend dates and determine the number of guests they can accommodate. Attendees register on the website and choose their meal based solely on the book title.
Some of the books that will inspire the meals this year are: Lessons in Chemistry, The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, Braiding Sweetgrass, Wolf Hall, and Gather (by Norwich's own Keneth Cadow). You don't absolutely have to know the book, but it can serve as a nice jumping off point for conversation and a tasty meal.
There are still a few spots left for meals, so head over to the NPL's website to get your ticket:

See you there!
This recent Listserv post has the pricing info and links to purchase tickets also.

For About Norwich
I am so glad I found this website. Although not knowing any of the newer trustees, I have to say it brings a lot of smiles to my face. I am Earl Zimmerman's niece and have been to Norwich several times with my uncle Earl and his daughter Roberta and granddaughter Cindy. We three will be in Norwich sometime the week of July 15th. Our plans are not final yet as of the exact date. Of course we want to visit the library and all the wonderful areas we have visited on previous trips. I am not sure who is still living, as time always has a way of changing what you so vividly remembered. I sat in on a board meeting with Uncle Earl and I remember David Hastings, a Mr. Martin and I think his wife was Pat. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at their home during our visit. And then we had a driver, he was much younger than the board members and I think his name was also Michael. As time get's closer I will let you know the exact dates we will be in Norwich. I know all of us would love to meet some of the new board members. As of now our plans are to stay at The Nelson. Memories are so important in one's life and this trip is another memory we can thank Uncle Earl for.
My name: is Kathleen Farmwald - I live in Sarasota, FL - e-mail kathleenfarmwald4@gmail.com I will be meeting Roberta and her daughter Cindy in Amsterdam July 15th. Please feel free to send us anything that perhaps would prepare us for the visit. Looking forward to our time with you all.
Sincerely,
Kathleen
