Norwich welcomes and helps a YMCA summer camp from Pennsylvania feel right at home
I caught up with them as they were riding through town on their e-bikes
Taking a break before heading out and about in Norwich
As I was heading into town the other day I noticed a line of several e-bikes and riders on Main Street and some more in the parking lot across from the Ledyard bank. I stopped and asked if I could talk to the leader/guide for the group to see if they would be willing to share some of their journey with the community. I took a group photo and asked Brad Powell to send me some info and an additional photo or two.
Here is the story:
On Wednesday Norwich, Vermont played a vital role in helping a summer camp achieve their mission in making kids better forever! The whole town provided a welcoming atmosphere for Camp Fitch YMCA out of North Springfield, Pennsylvania located near Erie.
The group grabbed breakfast sandwiches from Dan & Whit’s, a place non-locals often hear about when researching the Appalachian Trail.

Instead of hiking, Camp Fitch had their motivation set to the countryside roads as they rode electronic bikes and led by a guide from Hanover Adventure Tours.
I saw them here and took this photo as I just finished taken some photos of Miss Lani’s art class (that will be another story)
The camp would like to thank the citizens who slowed down to see if the group was alright when a few kids fell off their bikes. All in all the camp had a real blast, especially ending it at Norwich Farm Creamery and drinking fresh chocolate milk!

Fitch ended their day back at the hostel renting boats and swimming in the Connecticut River. The whole day was a perfect example of how teens ages 13-17 can have fun in the outdoors growing in mind, body and spirit!
Camp Fitch YMCA offers trips all over the east coast and southern Appalachians. You don’t have to travel to Erie either, the trip can pick up your kid at any airport!
