Saturday evening, February 13, may have been a pretty cold night, however those that attended the first Nordic night event held by the Norwich recreation department at Brookmead, can tell you just how cool it was to join in with other Norwich residents and just enjoy the evening. The video below was taken by Emma Cottage and will give you an idea of how the evening went. After you watch the video there is another link with some photos taken by several participants. Photo credits are assigned. Enjoy and you may want to sign up for the next one.

Our first ‘Nordic at Night’ was a pretty convincing success. Thank you to everyone who volunteered: The Phipps Family for traffic control, Lily Trajman for helping choose and mark the trail early, on site lantern lighters Kristin and Stuart Close (and their friend Linnea), Kristin Fauci, Emma Cottage, Colleen Fox, the Manning Family for lantern clean up, UVLT’s Paul B (it was his BIRTHDAY), Joel & Elissa Bradley. You all brought this crazy idea together, and we thank you. If I am forgetting anyone, I apologize. You can find photos of the event here: https://norwichvt.myrec.com/info/gallery/default.aspx?CategoryID=236#photos . We will host two more Nordic at Night events - sign up on our website
Tour of the Trails: Winter Edition – this past Sunday, we held our first Beginner Snowshoe outing in the Milton Frye Nature Area. Next week, Norwich Rec will host members of the Norwich Women’s Club in the MFNA. The Trails Volunteers will host an Advanced Snowshoe excursion to Upper Ballard on Thursday (2/18) and another next Wednesday (2/24) so that people can check out the Converse Trail. Registration is required for all of these programs. To keep up to date on the offerings from Norwich Recreation this winter, please make sure to check back here: https://norwichvt.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29937
Ice Rink – please, respect the 12 person maximum, and the Vermont COVID-19 travel restrictions. This weekend, groups of parents were standing together on the rink (not outside). If you are not skating or a member of our Hosing team grooming the ice, please stay out of the rink. The signage is also very clear about gatherings…they are not allowed. These are state guidelines, and we all have to adhere to them or likely close the rink. If the kids can follow the rules as well as they are, so can the adults.
Thanks everyone,
