Message From The Principal
This was a celebratory week at MCS. On Thursday we had a special REP that doubled as a surprise all school celebration. As part of our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system, we take the time to celebrate students following our school expectations of Kind, Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. Thursday the celebration took the form of a staff talent show…and we certainly have talented staff members. The event was enjoyed by all and will certainly be put on the list to repeat in the future.
On Wednesday, after the parent coffee chat, we had an official opening of the Norwich Town Forest Nature trail. You might ask why we would reopen the trails? A couple of years ago we sought out to make the trails accessible for all of our learners. To do so, the trail needed to meet ABA compliance. Through the efforts and partnership of the Upper Valley Trails Alliance, Norwich School District, and the Dorothy and Jack Byrne Foundation, we were able to accomplish this end. On Wednesday the fully accessible trail system officially opened. MCS is fortunate to have amazing supporters. Please follow this link to learn more.
Next Wednesday, at 5:00pm to 6:30 pm (just before the Norwich School Board Meeting), please join Dr. Badams and Dresden School Board Member, Ben Keeney, for a presentation of the SAU 70 Strategic Planning and SAU 70 Comprehensive Family cost surveys from 2023.
If you have not had the opportunity to complete the Class Placement Family Survey, here is another opportunity.
Have a fantastic weekend,
Shawn
Student Services Update
Happy Friday!
Please remember that there is a Kindergarten and Pre-K Orientation on the morning of May 6th (Teacher Inservice Day). There are links to more information about these events in the Important Date Section of Who’s wise Words.
It is that time of year for families, staff and students to complete the PBiS Climate Survey. Our goal is to get 100 families to complete the family survey. The data from this survey and the same survey administered in November will be shared with the Norwich School Board later in the year. Please take a moment and complete the survey here. We realize that when selecting the grade your child is in, there is not a Pre-K option. For those folks, please click “I prefer not to answer” in order to proceed to the next questions.
Coffee Talk Update - This past Wednesday, we (PTO and MCS administration) hosted a well attended update on playgrounds and septic treatment. Briefly, the back playground and septic treatment system are on schedule to be completed this summer. There are playground pieces designated to go into the front of the school, but those can only be installed after all the septic treatment work is done and may not happen before school starts.
Have a great week,
Greg Bagnato
Class Counsel with Ms. Keel
In class counsel in grades PreK-5th we will be starting or have already started the Committee for Children’s Child Protection Unit. If you have not received your family letter, you can view a copy of it here. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
In Sixth grade we are continuing to learn about the brain and will be transitioning into substance prevention. We will do this by taking a deeper dive into how the brain works down to the cellular level. This will help create a deeper understanding of what happens inside the brain and then body when substances are introduced.
Attention Sixth Grade Families
