The owl is on the Church Steeple but who gives a hoot!
Certainly not these pigeons
Looks like they are one happy family - The owl and the pigeons that is
They say that if you place a decoy owl somewhere you will deter a flock of birds from congregating there but in this case it appears that these pigeons might be protected by a higher power if you will.
Photo credit for this story/essay goes to Rev. Jonathan Hauze, Peter Orner, and Jess
I showed Dan Goulet (Sexton for the Congregational Church) this owl at Marion Cross and asked if a larger one would be more effective? The answer was absolutely not, although he really liked carvings on this owl.
I bet if this bird was on duty things might be a little different and the pigeons would stop hanging around. This photo was sent to me by Jess, and I thought it would be nice for this story.
And this one is hot off the press and sent in by Fran DeGasta-spotted in her yard a few months back
These birds are standing tall and proud just like a peacock
YAY, alone at last
But not for long
Here we go again
