Yes, the 5th season of Norwich is officially here however, did you know there are seven seasons?
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Mud Season, Mailbox improvement season and let's not forget golf season.
Good afternoon Norwich , the Upper Valley and beyond,
This story touches briefly on the seasons of the Upper Valley to explain that there are really seven seasons, especially if you are a golfer. Let the story begin and hopefully there will be time for golf later as that season is a little ways away.
Northern Meteorological Seasons are as follows
Spring runs from March 1 to May 31;
Summer runs from June 1 to August 31;
Fall (autumn) runs from September 1 to November 30; and.
Winter runs from December 1 to February 28 (February 29 in a leap year).
Here in Vermont we have Mud season as # 5 which starts when the snow melts
Mailbox repair season could be the 6th depending on what kind of winter we had. Mailboxes have taken a beating all winter, sometimes knocked over by plow trucks, both public and private. The constant contraction and expansion causes them to shift one way or the other.
This is a story about the 6th season
Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter are the 4 seasons that we all know, and these are the 4 that we look forward to every year, but the other two maybe not so much. Mud season is upon us and this season gets a little messy for those that live on dirt roads. Not much you can do about this though.
The sixth season is Mail Box improvement season and the US Postal Service (TM) designates the third full week of May as Mailbox Improvement Week to encourage customers on city motorized, rural, or contract delivery service routes (formerly highway contract box delivery routes) to examine and, where necessary, improve the appearance of their mailboxes. Neat, attractive mailboxes make a significant contribution to the appearance of the countryside and streets in suburban areas. Mailbox Improvement Week, May 19-25 calls attention to the need for providing mailboxes that are:
1. Approved by the Postmaster General.
2. Designed to protect the mail from weather.
3. Safe to use.
4. Conveniently located.
5. Neat in appearance
You could have yours repaired or replaced sooner and would be well ahead of the curve.
Please don’t despair if your mail box needs repair or replacing. Just reach out to me and I will set you free from this worry. I have repaired and replaced many mail boxes in the area and as a retired Postmaster, you could say I know the “code.”
Below you will find a few photos of the mailboxes that I have installed and or repaired. Reach out if you need help with yours. Contact aboutnorwich@gmail.com.

Now is the time to at least be thinking about repairing and or replacing them. You will probably have to wait a few more weeks or so but remember the early bird gets the worm, so take a look see and check things out. I am taking orders and have several boxes built and ready to be installed once mother nature allows me to. Here are the photos of just a few that I have done. There are several more. I can repair your box, or replace. You can choose to have the post painted or you can let it weather naturally. The majority of my customers seem to like letting the post weather on it’s own.
Here are some photos of mailboxes that were recently done. A couple have chosen to use the existing box and just replace the post. It is your choice as I can do both.

And now the finished product

A nice Vermont Green box with a Valley News box attached
An extra large box to accept parcels was this customers choice
A larger box to accept parcels with the same concept
These two owners helped make this install happen and were smiling all the way
Or maybe not (but yes they gave me the green light to use these photos).
Pressure treated post with a Vermont green mailbox
Same size box on pressure treated post that was primed and two applications of gray paint.
This customer seems pleased with the new box ( editors note: installed a while ago)

A metal box that had to be modified to the proper code height
This was a special ordered box
Three large boxes on a single post evenly spaced.

Very attractive, a plus to any neighborhood.
